DIY AI (Artificial Insemination in dairy cows) can save you time and money by getting your dairy and/or suckler cows inseminated at the right time.

This course teaches skills involved in performing AI to you and/or your staff, progressing Evolution Farm Vets’ strong belief in sharing veterinary knowledge with farmers, thus helping farmers to AI dairy cows and increase self-sufficiency and increase productivity.

This is a 3-day DIY AI course, ideal for dairy and/or suckler cattle, with in-depth training on both a practical and theory level of DIY AI – practical elements necessarily taking the limelight. The training covers:

• when to AI dairy cows and/or suckler cows
• anatomy/physiology of the cow’s reproductive tract. This gives an understanding of what you aim to achieve… and why
• a full demonstration of correct AI semen-handling technique. This aspect of the procedure is very important, but often neglected and downgraded
• a practical one-to-one demonstration of how to pass an AI gun through the cow’s cervix. Emphasis is placed on how to avoid common A.I. failures
• ultra-sound scan of a cow’s uterus, to determine where semen has been deposited, so you can accurately identify relevant landmarks by touch

Aimed primarily at previous attendees of our full 3-day DIY A.I. Course (Artificial Insemination in dairy cows), this will be useful to herdspeople who already hold an A.I. certificate but who perhaps have not been able to AI dairy cows frequently and possibly feel a lack of confidence in their skills in getting cows in-calf. It is always good to check things are going well too – so, if you just want to make sure you are doing the best that you can when you A.I. cows and heifers, this training will be beneficial for you.

What you can expect:

• a condensed refresher of both practical and theoretical training, previously given in-depth at our 3-day A.I. course
• practical assessment of your dairy cow A.I. technique
• consequent advice and demonstration of any improvements/tweaks to your technique to revitalise and increase your confidence
• opportunity to put training into practice to ensure your on-going confidence when you AI dairy cows
