Schau Der Besten 2017

PROGENY TOUR & SHOW UPDATE

Mastergen were delighted to take a group of customers to this year’s Schau Der Besten in Verden, Germany.

We had a tour of the impressive Masterrind bull stud, visited some great farms to see some impressive progeny and we also got to look around Masterrind’s very own IVF/ET Station.

Beart is a stand-out sire when looking for a functional, profitable modern dairy cow. His sire stack of Beacon x Goldwyn x Oman is extremely well balanced and the maternal line of the Daisy’s proves that Beart is as solid as they come!

Having seen 3 of his daughters on a large 1200 head farm in their later stage of their second lactation, it is clear that his daughters continue to milk well with all daughters still giving just over 40kgs! The breeder is still using Beart today as he is so pleased with the daughters he has, he complimented the bull for producing easy manageable cows.

A group of 10 daughters all in their second lactation at the show was particularly impressive. All of his daughters are above average on milk yield with outstanding udders. His daughters are all wide in the rear udder, have ideal teat size and placement with strong and clean attachments both in the rear and fore, assuring his position as the leading Robot Index Sire in Europe!

Deriving from a solid and well proven sire stack, Giant is a newly proven Cameron son from Goldwyn daughter, Gold-N-Oaks Gali 1956 EX90-2E  bred by the renowned Regancrest farms in the USA is backed by a deep 10 generations of VG/EX Dams.

(Giant daughter: Ladylike Jr 2Yr Old)

It was a pleasant surprise to see one of his very first daughters compete at the show! She calved at 2 Yrs 2 months of age and was 3 months freshly calved into her first lactation at the show. Wow! What an udder she had, one of the best fore-udders I have seen in some time! She had a tidy, snug udder attached to a balanced open frame; as Giant’s proof indicates. She was of average stature and had a clean set of feet and legs, the kind who will be in her prime after a few calvings! Giant is the perfect mating on Shottle bloodlines and will input longevity through to his daughters!

One Red remains to be one of the best-selling R&W sires within the Mastergen line-up, his outstanding pedigree consisting of 6 generations of VG/EX dams from the one of a kind Fools Gold cow family!
(One Red daughter freshly calved in her 1st lactation & One Red the bull)

One-Red still remains a genomic sire but we were lucky enough to view 3 of his very first daughters which had calved in Germany. The first two heifers were a little too fresh to get a decent look of what their mammary systems were like, but the third heifer, at 42 days in milk, really stood out. Having calved out a young age of just under 2 Yrs old, this red heifer oozed power, she was correct throughout with very few holes. Her udder showed excellent promise, with snug attachments and decent teat length and position.

One-Red clearly transmits more power and strength through to his daughters than his genomic proof indicates, he is a sire I have great confidence in, producing daughters to fit in a variety of management systems.

What a bull! A son of the 2017 Swiss Expo Supreme Champion Gold Chip Darling EX94 (EX95 MAM), this bull is guaranteed to make the special kind! Backed by the reliable family of the Dellia’s and a sire stack consisting of some of the leading sires of sons what’s not to like?

(Dam of Darlingo- Gold Chip Darling EX94 (EX95 MAM)

Darlingo himself is a big-time show bull, he has more style than most show-winning females. His silky, open-ribbed frame and clean cut legs and feet catches the eye. On the move he parades with great presence, a topline running uphill and excellent locomotion.

His Dam in the flesh is just as impressive with a perfect udder showing width and height in the rear. Her Feet and Legs were also outstanding! Darlingo is truly one of a kind – if you want to significantly improve feet and legs, mammary and overall dairyness then this is the bull for you!

MISS SCHAU DER BESTEN 2017

AND THE WINNER IS….FG MADAME (DESTRY) HENRIK WILLE

3 UK YOUNG BREEDERS WIN CHANCE TO WORK AT THE SCHAU DER BESTEN 2017
The three British prize-winners had the chance to work with some of the best show cows in Europe!

Lizzie Bradley, 20, from Bishop Auckland, Holly Berreen, 23, from Dartford and Shaun Rennie, 21, from Ayrshire all took part in the Schau der Besten show.

They all had various duties within their mixed teams and helped to feed, milk, prepare and exhibit some of Europe’s top show cows – responsibilities they regarded as a great honour.

All three – selected for persuading us they would gain the most from the opportunity – say they all had a fantastic experience and are looking forward to using the techniques learnt at the show on their own herds back here in the UK.

A highlight of the trip was for Lizzie Bradley who lead two of the top priced animals in the Exclusive Schau der Besten Auction, Lizzie says ‘Being asked to lead in the sale was an honour. The sale was so well put together and an added bonus was leading the top two prices – 25,000 and 20,000!! (Pictured below).
